Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL)

FCCISL (Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka) is a non-profit apex organisation established in 1973 with a nationwide network of chambers, associations and civil society organisations across Sri Lanka. Through this network, FCCISL has experience in bringing together community-based actors, local associations, public institutions and other stakeholders around local development, livelihoods, sustainability and social and environmental responsibility. FCCISL has established relationships with relevant local organisations and actors in Nuwara Eliya and Kandy through its nationwide network and previous project collaboration. The organisation is familiar with the local context and has knowledge of civil society organisations, CBOs, women’s groups and community associations that may be relevant to the pilot. These existing connections will enable FCCISL to begin local outreach and mobilisation promptly and support implementation within the six-month project period. In this project, FCCISL’s relevance is not its representation of business interests, but its capacity to mobilise local actors, facilitate participatory processes and connect community-based organisations with relevant duty bearers. FCCISL will support civil society organisations and community groups in identifying local needs, participating in capacity-building activities, developing action plans and bringing shared priorities into dialogue with local and district-level duty bearers. FCCISL will contribute as a local convenor and bridge-builder and will be responsible for local coordination, outreach, facilitation, documentation and follow-up. The project will not provide support to private companies or promote business development. FCCISL’s role is to strengthen civil society participation and ensure that local voices are included in dialogue on sustainable energy, climate resilience and other locally identified development priorities.
