FCCISL (Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka) is a non-profit apex organisation established in 1973 with a nationwide network of chambers and associations across all districts and provinces of Sri Lanka. Through this broad local presence, FCCISL has experience in bringing together community-based actors, local associations, public institutions and other stakeholders around issues related to local development, livelihoods, responsible enterprise, sustainability and social and environmental responsibility. In this project, FCCISL’s relevance is not its role as a representative of business interests, but its capacity to mobilise local actors, facilitate dialogue and create links between community-based organisations and relevant decision-makers. FCCISL will use its local networks and facilitation experience to support civil society organisations, CBOs, local associations and community groups in Nuwara Eliya to identify local needs, participate in capacity-building activities and bring their priorities into dialogue with authorities and other relevant actors. FCCISL’s contribution is therefore as a local convenor and bridge-builder. The organisation can support practical coordination, outreach, facilitation, local follow-up and stakeholder dialogue in a way that strengthens civil society participation. The project will not provide support to private companies or promote business development. FCCISL’s role is to help ensure that local civil society voices are included in discussions on sustainable energy, climate resilience and local development.
