Since its establishment in 1996, the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center (KSCC) in Ramallah, Palestine, has fostered arts and culture through a diverse range of programs and events. Anchored in Palestine’s rich cultural legacy, this non-profit organization is named after Khalil Sakakini, the Palestinian scholar, poet, and nationalist from Jerusalem (1878–1953). The Center is housed in a beautifully renovated early twentieth-century building surrounded by gardens, regularly used as public cultural space. Over the past two decades, KSCC has become widely recognized, both locally and nationally, as a vibrant hub for artistic and cultural expression. It celebrates the arts for their ability to provoke questions, present alternative perspectives, and embrace multiple interpretations, fostering a culture of critique and thoughtful analysis. Since its founding, critical inquiry has been deeply embedded in KSCC’s identity, driving the Center to continuously adapt and innovate amidst the turbulent Palestinian political and funding landscape. KSCC’s core purpose is to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive cultural space that centers reflection, creativity, and resistance. The Center views culture as a vital tool in the Palestinian struggle—not only for political liberation, but also for preserving identity, reclaiming narrative, and fostering collective resilience. Over the years, KSCC has evolved from a space for cultural presentation into a critical platform for deep, multidisciplinary cultural engagement, shaped by ongoing local and global challenges. Its work is structured around four interconnected and evolving programs: Critical Inquiry & Dialogue, Arts, Literature, and Land—each contributing to the Center’s commitment to cultural resistance, imagination, and transformation.
