Overall targets
To improve Zanzibar NCD Alliance’s (Z-NCDAs) capacity to engage communities in prevention of NCDs and in citizen driven advocacy for NCD health promotion and control at local and national level.
Immediate targets
Organize the citizens of Makunduchi, a community of about 30.000 people, in collaboration with Makunduchi Traditional Food Festival (MTFF) and Mvende Village Fitness Club to empower the citizens on health promotion and advocacy for access to essential medicine and health services.
Target groups
Primary target group • About 400 people men and women above 25 years participating in World Health Day and MTFF for NCD screening and education will gain from knowing their NCD health status. • 200 people participating in fitness activities during the World Health Day and the MTFF. • 200 people participating in nutrition and cooking classes during the WHD and MTFF. • About 2500 people visiting the MTFF • About 60 community representatives for MTFF and the fitness clubs • Z-NCDA board and member associations (9 people). Secondary target groups • About 5 to 8.000 citizens who will receive health information through the mass media • The community health committees in Makunduchi containing 18 members, 3 representatives from each shehia, the doctor in charge of Makunduchi cottage hospital, the Matron and manager from Makunduchi hospital and Makunduchi hospital secretary. • Local parliament and counsellor (Diwani) • 8 members of the Board of MTFF. • 5 members of the MVFC board • Mtegani FM and the local television station. • Journalists and editors about 10 journalists. • Members of HoR. • MoH, Minister of Information, Culture, Tourism and Sports. Zanzibar NCD Alliance will together with Makunduchi Traditional Food Festival (MTFF) and Mvende Village Fitness Club develop capacity for citizen driven health promotion and advocacy for access to essential medicine and health services. They will use World Health Day and MTFF as platforms for engaging people in Makunduchi establishing their health data and for health promotion through participation in market activities, physical activity, nutrition education, competitions and a focus group. This will be supplemented with media coverage. A report will gather health information and a video will capture the events and the peoples request to local and governmental politicians and authorities. They will hand over People’s requests for support to health promotion and access to medicine locally at a public meeting with the counsellor and centrally to Ministry of Health and House of Representatives. A strategy and guidelines for citizen health promotion will be developed and disseminated
