Why is financial management important?

Sound financial management is the foundation for responsible and transparent management of the resources held by your organisation and your partners. CISU emphasises that all project costs must be reasonable and well justified in relation to the activities and results to be achieved. Rather than being merely an administrative function, financial management serves as a strategic tool that ensures resources reach the target group and create the greatest possible impact.

The Danish grant holder bears the full administrative and legal responsibility for the awarded grant. This includes an obligation to monitor the local partner’s financial management and to ensure that the necessary systems are in place to document all project-related expenditures. The grantee must therefore ensure that both their own and the partner’s procedures fully comply with the applicable requirements for sound financial management and internal controls.

Below you can read about the various requirements within financial management. For each topic, you will find information, examples and templates, as well as details on the advice and capacity development that CISU offers in this area.
