The budget constitutes the financial framework for the project and must present all expected costs in whole Danish kroner in a clear and transparent manner. It is essential that the budget corresponds closely to the project description, as the assessment of the application places strong emphasis on whether the resources are reasonable and well justified in relation to the activities and results to be achieved. The project managers in both the Danish organisation and the partner organisation are encouraged to prepare the budget jointly, after which it must be approved by the Danish organisation in accordance with its statutes.

By using CISU’s mandatory budget formats, it is ensured that each budget line can be directly linked to the described outputs. Particular attention must be paid to providing thorough justifications in the budget notes for any unusual or large cost items. The budget is approved as part of the application, but may be adjusted during implementation if necessary through budget revisions, which in certain cases require prior approval from CISU.

In addition, CISU requires that the organisation prepares an overview of its expected total expenditures and how these are financed – a so-called Core Cost Budget. This requirement applies if the organisation has fixed operational costs, has multiple donors and income sources, or pays salaries financed by CISU funds. The purpose is to ensure a fair and transparent allocation of organisational costs across different sources of income.
