Overall targets
To facilitate an empowered and peaceful youth population in Zambia that constructively participates in the country’s governance and development processes at large.
Immediate targets
1. To promote peaceful and non-violent youth participation in Zambia’s 2016 general elections through training peer educators in dialogue for peace processes, and repeated youth targeted public messages calling for peaceful participation in the elections 2. To facilitate that youth issues get into the policy agenda in Zambia by lobbying for acceptance and uptake of the National Youth Manifesto by all possible 2016 general election candidates
Target groups
• Up to 10 YWCA Zambia staff/volunteers • 30 Youth peer educators trained in dialogue for peace mechanisms • At least up to 500 local ‘compound’ youths from the targeted compounds taking part in Bridging dialogues with aspiring politicians • At least 500 youths from the 5 compounds where we will run caravans • Up to 50 electoral candidates and local leaders that will be part of the activities • Up to 20 police officers in charge who will join the different activities at different times • The listenership and viewers of the talk shows on radios and TV are estimated to reach more than 3 million people across the project

Majoriteten af unge i Lusakas udsatte områder så som slummer (Compunds) har ikke andel i landets politiske dagsordener, endsige være i stand til at deltage meningsfuldt i landets valgprocesser. Dette har gennem årene skabt stor frustration og foragt for relevansen af valgprocesser blandt de unge, hvilket får mange til enten at trække sig helt eller engagere sig på en destruktiv måde. Men med de økonomiske vanskeligheder landet står overfor, har denne frustration eskaleret, og det frygtes, at det vil kunne resultere i vold under valgene, især af unge i slumområder, hvis økonomiske tilstand er mest presset. Dette projekt er således et forsøg på at afbøde sådanne katastrofale hændelser. Vi ønsker, at dette projekt kan bidrage til et fredeligt parlamentsvalg gennem en bred opfordring fra unge til unge til fredeligt at deltage i valget, og for politikerne at genkende og bringe ungdomsspørgsmål på den politiske dagsorden.
