Myanmar is currently wracked by conflict as a result of the 2021 coup, and is facing economic ruin, as most economic activities have become increasingly difficult. The livelihoods and agricultural sectors are not exempt from this. One activity which is currently thriving in Myanmar however is the farming of Black Solder Fly Larvae (BSFL). This project will support community development through the establishment of groups and cooperatives to support primarily integrated fish and insect farming for livelihoods, waste collection and pre-treatment for livelihoods and recovered materials, and insect breeding. Additional benefits will include: fertiliser production, environmentally-friendly techniques, nutritional enhancement and climate-sensitive outcomes through production of BSFL. While BSFL farming is established in Myanmar, community and civil society collaborative aspects have not yet been pursued as a means of further enhancing the technologies competitive advantages.
