The project aims to map pollution sources along the Huallaga River in Peru, addressing a critical lack of systematic data on the extent, types, and distribution of contamination. This knowledge gap limits the ability of civil society and local authorities to understand, prioritise, and respond to environmental and health challenges. The project will combine drone-based data collection, satellite imagery (Copernicus/Sentinel), and GIS analysis (QGIS) to identify pollution hotspots and create a structured overview of contamination patterns. Implemented in partnership with REDREC, the project strengthens local capacity by generating accessible data that can support awareness-raising, inform dialogue with authorities, and guide future interventions. It represents a first phase toward building a long-term, evidence-based approach to addressing pollution and its potential links to public health in the region.
