3 to 4 consecutive rain seasons with below average rain have caused a drought crisis in East Bale Zone. Promissio and its partner, the EECMY-DASSC, will for a period of six months through the East Bale Lowland Emergency Response Project (EBLERP) in coordination with zonal and district authorities distribute lifesaving food aid in the very remote Dawe Serer district, which is the hardest hit in East Bale Zone facing an IPC 4 emergency. 10,373 people out of a total district population of 63,931 are most affected by the drought crisis. Of these the EBLERP will with the available budget reach the most severely affected 1,196 persons out of which 896 people are most vulnerable. These include children under 5, lactating mothers and pregnant women. In addition, and with the aim of improving livelihood resilience, the EBLERP will distribute two goats per household to 86 female-headed, poor households and will train 200 community members on disaster risk reduction strategies.
