Across the Horn of Africa, some regions are facing their driest season in 40 years. Over 14 million people across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya—about half of them children—are already on the verge of starvation. In Somalia alone, over half a million people have already fled their homes in search of food and water since the start of 2022. Mercy Corps is responding to immediate needs by providing cash assistance, increasing access to water, and supporting pastoralist and farmer livelihoods—with an emphasis on building resilience beyond the current crisis The objective of the intervention is to response the call of the international communities as well as the Somali government to assist the severe drought affected populations in Somali by providing food packages and water trucking to the drought affected people in Somalia in order to save the starving people who are at risk of dying of hunger and thirst.
