In this joint intervention, the partners seek to enhance democratic learning in rural South Africa through participation in trade union democracy. The trade union represents one of the only forums where rural workers and members of rural communties can find a platform for civic engagement and democratic participation and decision making. Therefore, the intervention will make sure as many as possible gain a deeper sense of understanding of how the democratic processes work, and that they have opportunity to meaningfully engage. Through this intervention, workers - hereunder the most marginalised groups of workers - will be supported and empowered in diving into the union constitution, drafting resolutions, and discussing what changes they would like to see in their everyday lives. Through participating directly in decision making they will gain a greater sense of unity, solidarity and the power of the collective, which is much needed after the pandemic lock downs of 2020/2021.
