This intervention aims to educate adolescent girls (10–19-year-olds) and their families about nutrition, health and rights through participatory and relatable methods which will in turn lead to families and communities changing discriminatory practices in favour of the adolescent girls. This will be done through establishment of girl groups for all adolescent girls in 160 villages. The groups will act as a platform for the adolescent girls to learn and discuss how to improve their health and rights, carry out advocacy activities, develop leadership skills and gain self-confidence. Families with adolescent girls will also be trained in establishment of organic kitchen gardens to ensure all-time access to nutritious food. A model to improve lives of adolescent girls will be developed as part of the advocacy effort to get the state government to adopt and scale up the activities at state level. The intervention will be implemented in two districts in the state of Odisha, India.
