The intervention anticipates widespread evacuation in Albay Province due to lahar flow triggered by heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. Around the volcano, over 61 million m³ of volcanic deposits remain unstable, which may trigger explosions and lahar flow during heavy rains. The intervention aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity of displaced families by improving conditions in evacuation centers, thus encouraging timely evacuation and enabling affected persons to better cope with prolonged displacement and evolving risks. The intervention focuses on Barangay Quirangay in Camalig Municipality where natural water channels and valleys put residents in the path of volcanic debris from the currently active Mayon Volcano, as well as from previous eruptions. The southwest monsoon season began on the 30th of May, with 9-13 tropical cyclones forecast for June to November 2026 alongside a developing El Niño expected to bring above-normal rainfall followed by severe drought.
