Overall targets

By 2020 livelihood and food safety has improved for both producers and consumers in Northern Vietnam through the expansion of organic and safe food production amongst the rural poor, especially ethnic minorities

Immediate targets

1. By 2018 the system for organic and safe foods has been widened especially among ethnic minorities in Northern Vietnam 2. By 2018 VOAA has broadened and strengthen its capacity to engage in strategic partnerships/network with organic agriculture stakeholders in Vietnam to act as a key civil society actor in relation to organic agriculture 3. By 2018 the framework for production and marketing of organic and safe foods has been improved through advocacy measures to ensure its long term sustainability and acceptance by consumers and policy makers

Target groups

The project will focus on producers, consumers, and institutions. The intervention will involve more than 1000 ethnic minority producer households. The majority of the population in the target area is ethnic (80 % Muong) and the project will be gender sensitive in terms of focusing on commodities mainly under the management of women in the household. An important target group of the project will be consumers who are seeking to ensure the health of their families through consumption of safe foods. The total outreach towards consumers will be wide because the intervention may also be directed towards consumers that are oriented toward safe products which in Vietnam is a different classification than organic. The secondary target group of the project will be a range of institutions. A major effort will focus on transforming the VOAA into a professional organization capable of offering support, directly and through its networks, in all aspects of organic agriculture, production, quality control though the PGS system and advocacy activities with consumers and policy makers. At the regional level, the focus will be upon authorities in Hoa Binh province and districts to encourage and help them in incorporating organic agriculture into their development plans.

Det er projektets overordnede mål at bidrage til en forbedring af fødevaresikkerheden for både producenter og forbrugere i det nordlige Vietnam. Den primære målgruppe er fattige etniske minoriteter og fokus vil være på husholdninger og bondegrupper. Gennem udvidelse af økologisk jordbrug vil fattige landbrugere i landdistrikterne drage nytte af de helbredsmæssige fordele, der er ved økologiske produktionsmetoder. Bønder vil modtage undervisning i økologiske dyrkningsmetoder samt markedsføring af produkterne. Dette kan sikre en mere stabil indkomst fra landbruget. Producenterne og forbrugerne vil opleve et større udbud af sunde og sikre fødevarer og det skal mindske risikoen for sygdom ved indtagelse af farlige fødevarer. Partnerorganisationen er den økologiske forening Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association.
