Resume

SIMA-Shawi is a 12-month pilot to strengthen the Shawi Autonomous Territorial Government’s ability to protect its territory, rivers, forests, health and livelihoods. Ten Shawi communities will function as monitoring nodes, with 20 focal points trained and equipped to safely document and communicate environmental and territorial concerns. Their georeferenced observations will be organised in a Shawi-controlled GIS and evidence system, allowing the ATG to identify patterns, prioritise cases and approach relevant authorities with precise locations and documented information. The project will establish reporting procedures, communication infrastructure and pathways for alerts, verification requests and case follow-up that can continue after the project period. It is implemented by Saving Rivers and Lakes and Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance/Cuencas Sagradas, under the leadership and decision-making authority of the Shawi ATG.
