Resume

Zambian correctional centres are challenged by poor health due to poor health systems, severe overcrowding, poor hygiene, and inadequate nutrition. The aim of the project is to contribute to improved health and human rights for inmates with a particular focus on the implementation of the Health Strategic Plan (HSP) (2022-2026) and the associated Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework. A strategic focus on inmate empowerment, capacity building of civil society and strategic advocacy towards key areas of the Health Strategic Plan, namely nutrition, infectious diseases and mental health will contribute to taking strides against the intended purpose of the intervention. Concretely, the intervention will include implementation of health and nutrition projects in 5 targeted correctional centres, a strengthening of the Civil Society Alliance for Health, advocacy directed at duty bearers in the shape of awareness raising, data collection and analysis against the HSP and the M&E framework.
