Resume

The project promotes long-term Human-Elephant Coexistence (HECo) in Tanzania and Botswana by strengthening the capacity of local NGOs, communities, and authorities to prevent and manage human-elephant conflicts. Building on a rights-based approach, it aims to improve safety, livelihood resilience, and access to government services while supporting biodiversity conservation. Primary target groups include partner NGO staff and rural communities living in wildlife-rich areas with high levels of poverty, limited access to services and limited benefits from tourism. The project will deliver capacity building in project management, monitoring and advocacy; establish shared monitoring systems; train community elephant patrol teams; support beehive fences and other non-lethal deterrents; promote livelihood diversification; conduct awareness campaigns; and facilitate local advocacy dialogues between communities and authorities to improve HECo policies, services, and compensation schemes.
