Immediate targets
1. Strengthen the organization and cooperation among nomadic herders in Khatgal. 2. Improve the quality of milk production and dairy products among nomadic herders in Khatgal to ensure profitable dairy business and marketing
Target groups
Primary target group: The members of Sarlagiin Saikhan Khishig (SSKh). The cooperative was founded in 2015 in the village of Khatgal and currently consists of 27 herders (23 women and 4 men), who represent 27 nomadic families of a total of approximately 120 people. SSKh expects to reach 50 members within the time frame of this intervention. Secondary target group: he National Dairy Development Board of Mongolia, whose members first of all will be upgraded in their dairy expertise and learn how to replicate workshops implemented by Dairy without Borders. Secondly, the board will gain experience working as a partner in an international partnership.

Khovgol Dairy Project is a small and very targeted project aimed to help the cooperative Sarlagiin Saikhan Khishig (Blessed by the Yak), comprised by nomadic herders from Northern Mongolia, to improve their cooperation and dairy production to generate an income and improve their livelihood. The project is a collaboration between Dairy without Borders, Architects without Borders and the National Dairy Development Board of Mongolia. This intervention is a continuation of our joint efforts for the past two years, where we have made some steady although slow progress. Appreciating the results so far, we now wish to increase our intervention with a two-pronged approach: Strengthen the organization and cooperation among nomadic herders in Khatgal; and Improve the quality of their milk production and dairy products. With the overall objective to Reduce poverty and improve income opportunities for herders in Khatgal, Khovsgol in Mongolia.
