Resume

The project pilots a locally led and community-based Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) model for internally displaced children aged 5–6 in Bakelo IDP camp, Debre Berhan, Ethiopia. It addresses the breakdown of early learning pathways in protracted displacement by strengthening caregiver capacity, community ownership, and institutional linkages rather than short-term service delivery. The project contributes to improved school readiness, psychosocial wellbeing, and protection of displaced children, while building the capacity of IDP caregivers, the IDP community committee, and local authorities to plan, manage, and sustain ECDE activities. Pedagogical quality and system alignment are ensured through collaboration with Debre Birhan College of Teacher Education and the local intersectoral ECDE committee. Designed as a learning-oriented pilot, the project generates evidence on a sustainable alternative to Accelerated School Readiness (ASR).
