With this project, PlanBørnefonden will support the population affected by the earthquakes in Cotabato, Mindanao in the Philippines. Plan Philippines and the local partner Integrated Resource Development for Tri-People Inc. (IRDT) have both been operating in the area for a long time and collaborated on several other projects. They conducted a needs assessment which showed that the public markets are accessible and functioning, but the poorest families lack the means to rebuild their houses and to sustain their food needs. On top of this, many families in the evacuation centres are traumatized and nervous and have extreme stress about the current situation due to the aftershocks, not receiving basic relief goods, and some children and women are observed to be psychologically disturbed due to the earthquake. Therefore, we have chosen to focus our support on unconditional, multi-purpose cash grants for 1,300 of the most vulnerable families (6,500 individuals) as well as provision of protection and psychosocial support services for children and women in 10 safe spaces established in 10 of the affected barangays/villages. The cash grant will help the families to cover their basic needs and being able to afford to rebuild their houses while the protection of psychosocial support services will address traumas and stress among children and women through psychosocial- and recreational sessions.
