In traditional urban planning, decisions are made among a limited segment of society – and consequently, many cities are not designed with representation of the perspectives of women and girls. This project puts women at the forefront of urban planning. Through phases of assessment, design, and implementation, we explore what urban spaces will look like when young women are in charge. Dreamtown and Holistic Action for Development and Empowerment will test and apply the Her City toolbox, developed by UN-Habitat and Global Utmaning in a process of co-design of public space with young women and girls in the community Kamwanyi in Kampala – with a goal to explore and promote female-led inclusive urban planning and design. Working with women as sources of positive and transformational urban change, we will support a participatory ap-proach to city planning and governance that takes into consideration the voices and ideas of the women and girls walking and living in cities’ spaces.
