Overall targets

The overall objective of this intervention is to reduce HIV transmission and violence, harassment and discrimination from clients and public duty bearers among sex workers in Zomba, Malawi. The intervention will reach this objective through three approaches:

Immediate targets

1) Increase safe sex practices among sex workers and clients 2) Reduce sexual violence towards sex workers from police and clients 3) Increase sex workers’ access to high quality non-stigmatizing public health services

Target groups

Primary target groups • 4,220 sex workers (20 % male) o 200 organized in seven support groups, reaching out to others and participating in interface meetings o 180 reached with testing and counselling and offers to join the support groups through open sessions o 3,840 reached by the 200 sex workers with information, condoms and referrals to testing and counselling • 600 college students reached with information of life as a sex worker Secondary target groups • 200 officials from law enforcement, judicial departments, health institutions and community leaders • 600 soldiers • 50 leading stakeholders among groups that are common sex worker clients

Projektet vil forhindre hiv-smitte og forbedre forholdene for nogle af Malawis allermest udsatte kvinder: sexarbejderne. Sexarbejdere I Zomba I det sydlige Malawi vil blive undervest i hiv og aids, kondomforhandling og deres rettigheder og det vil gøre dem I stand til at beskytte sig mod smitte fra deres kunder. Projektet vil også addressere politiet og rettsystemet og derigennem beskytte sexarbejderne mod vold og overgreb. Til sidst, vil projektet inddrage sundhedspersonale og dermed sikre sexarbejderne et trygt sted at blive testet og behandlet for hiv og aids.
