Overall targets

Deconstruction of the institutionalized culture of violence towards children and youth by enhancing collaboration between public sector and civil society and promoting youth-driven advocacy interventions.

Immediate targets

1. Increased reporting on violence against children and youth, through strengthened collaboration between the public sector and civil society in 23 communities. 2. An active youth movement consisting of 15.000 youth from 23 communities are actively mobilizing citizens in change of attitudes towards violence against children and youth. 3. The Red Viva Nicaragua model of youth-driven advocacy is applied by other civil society organizations working with children and youth.

Target groups

Primary target group: - 100 youth leaders (50 boys and 50 girls), and 625 ambassadors (50% boys/girls) organized in Good Treatment Circles in 23 of the poorest and most violent communities in Managua. - 46 representatives of RVN member organizations (2 from each target community), and members of 23 CCPGs from 23 target communities. - 75 local officers of government institutions with strategic importance for the intervention (Public Ministry, Youth Tribunal, Ministry of Family, Ministry of Education, Attorney General, National Police) - 15 civil society organizations Secondary target group: 15.000 CY in 23 target communities who will be part of a youth movement participating in advocacy campaigning at the local and national level, and contributing to the design of proposals to duty-bearers. Families of youth leaders and ambassadors of Good Treatment Circles, people in the community, participating in local and national activities, and people reached through media strategies.

Resume

Formålet med dette projekt er at ændre en institutionaliseret kultur i Nicaragua, der legitimerer brugen af vold mod børn og unge. Denne kultur vil blive ændret igennem et øget samarbejde mellem den offentlige sektor og civilsamfundet og via ungdomsdrevet fortalervirksomhed. 100 ungdomsledere vil blive trænet i at opdage og reportere sager om vold. Ungdomslederne vil udføre peer-to-peer træning af yderligere 625 unge i 20 forskellige ’communities’. De unge støttes op af lokale komiteer (CCPG’er) bestående af voksne interessenter, fx religiøse og politiske ledere, som kæmper børnenes sag. CCPG’erne bidrager bl.a. ved at facilitere de unges adgang til ansvarshaverne. Via CCPG’erne skabes et forum for samarbejde mellem den offentlige sektor og civilsamfundet. Ungdomsledere og -ambassadører vil skabe en ungdomsbevægelse, som via lokale og nationale kampagner vil nå ud til 15.000 børn og unge. Desuden vil RVN udbrede deres model for ungdomsdrevet fortalervirksomhed nationalt og regionalt. Herved styrkes RVN’s position i civilsamfundet og deres muligheder for indflydelse.
