Growing Futures: Greenhouse Farming Initiative addresses youth unemployment and food insecurity in Geedkan Dheenta, Laas Geel region, Somaliland through a locally led, climate-smart livelihood approach. This pilot project supports 30 young women and men aged 21–30 to build practical skills, collective organisation, and income-generating capacity through greenhouse farming. Three greenhouses will be established and managed collectively by the youth through a cooperative structure. Participants will learn to grow cash crops, manage production cycles, and market produce. Income generated will cover operational costs, provide youth earnings, and contribute to a savings and seed-funding scheme supporting future youth-led greenhouse initiatives. By linking skills development with collective organisation and real economic opportunities, the project strengthens youth livelihoods, community resilience, and local food availability in a drought-affected context.
