Resume

This project aims to empower vulnerable girls and women in Freetown, Sierra Leone, by establishing a sustainable volunteer network to deliver basic literacy and numeracy education. More than half of all women aged 15+ cannot read or write at an age appropriate level and are considered illiterate. In cooperation with local partners BH SL and PPO, the project will build upon an existing platform for education. Through 12 targeted workshops and the development of context-appropriate teaching materials, volunteers from the local community and trainees from college gain competencies to teach basic literacy and numeracy at the skill training center for vulnerable women. The students at the training center will gain essential skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. The initiative leverages strong local partnerships and adaptive strategies to overcome barriers posed by poverty, gender inequality, and low literacy, ensuring long-term impact and continued support for future participants.
