Overall targets

To build resilient democratic community structures that provide space for young people to engage duty bearers at community, local government and national levels to address their development needs.

Immediate targets

To increase access and participation of young men and women in using sports for community development, healthy lifestyles and democratic consciousness by June 2022 2. To empower community members, especially the youth with innovative tools and information to initiate social enterprises. 3. To increase knowledge and action of young people regarding gender and sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR) by June 2022 4. To strengthen YOPP and NORSAAC capacity to become sustainable local organizations by June 2022

Target groups

The overall target groups are young people. There are primary and secondary target groups. primary targets are mainly young people particularly girls and women within the age range of 10-19 and 20-40 in the project operational area who participate in LYAs activities. Young people that are affected most in terms of participation and inclusion; many of them are school dropout and victims of unplanned pregnancy, early and forced marriage engulf these people and stag their development The local government actors made up of people who play key roles in the promotion of democracy at the local government level. Youth leaders of the LYAs meet and discuss developmental issues that affect their communities. It is also a platform where young leaders are groomed. They are elected by their community people who attain the age of voting, that is 18 and above. YOPP and NORSAAC-Boards,,YNG, YGN, LGG, Volunteers and LYAs. These categories are key actors that facilitate the implementation process, policy formulation and idea generation. They play a pivotal role upon which the beneficiaries revolve. An estimated total of 37, 000 people in rural areas are directly and indirectly targetted.

Resume

The Gender and Sports for Transformation and Empowerment Project (G-STEP) is a two- and half-year project to be implemented by YOPP, NORSAAC and DGI in four districts in Northern Ghana. The project is estimated to benefit at least 5000 community members including adolescent boys, girls, organised groups, and traditional leaders and women groups. The Project will basically use sports as a main tool for strengthening young people’s knowledge on sexual and reproductive health issues, gender and governance including improving their participation in local governance. It seeks to pilot the use innovative community social entrepreneurship models to empower young people economically. G-STEP seeks to actively engage communities of youth in making sense of the issues which affect their lives, setting goals for improvement and responding to problems and needs through empowerment and active participation in the overall development issues of their communities.
