Resume

The programme “Locally Led Advocacy and Preventive Efforts to Contain Diabetes Risk Factors in Tanzania” empowers People Living with Diabetes to advocate for their rights, manage risk factors, and lead healthier lives. Led by the Tanzania Diabetes Association in partnership with the Danish NCD Alliance, its initiative aligns with Tanzania’s national health strategies and SDG 3.4 on reducing premature NCD mortality. The programme strengthens civil society by organizing PLWD into self-help groups, fostering advocacy, and holding health authorities accountable - key pillars of TDA’s strategy. As diabetes rises in Tanzania, the initiative combats stigma (including self-stigma), improves healthcare access, and drives policy implementation, ensuring sustainable, community-led improvements in diabetes care from the ground up.
