The intervention will strengthen community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) for key populations in Malawi and Uganda, including sex workers, LGBT+ persons, people who use drugs, people living with HIV, and vulnerable adolescent girls and women. The project will strenghten the capacity of AIDS-Fondet’s local partners, frontline staff, peer leaders and volunteers to integrate MHPSS into existing HIV, legal aid and outreach services. Through training, mentorship and a training-of-trainers model, 40 staff and peer leaders will be trained to provide basic psychosocial support, identify signs of distress, promote wellbeing and facilitate safe referrals. The intervention will strengthen local civil society capacity, improve access to safe and non-discriminatory support, and contribute to better mental health, resilience and health rights among marginalised communities.
