Propel Organization is dedicated to environmental conservation, focusing on reducing plastic pollution, promoting sustainable waste management, and engaging local communities in eco-friendly initiatives. Through Project EcoVision, the organization actively works on beach clean-ups, tree planting, sea turtle protection, and educational workshops to foster environmental awareness and long-term sustainability. Key Activities 1. Beach Clean-up Efforts Plastic pollution is a major concern, particularly in marine environments where it affects wildlife and ecosystems. Propel Organization leads regular beach clean-ups in Lumley Creek, Lumley Beach, and Juba Beach, where plastic debris accumulates significantly. A structured team manages the clean-up: • Morning Clean-up Team (mostly women) • Afternoon Clean-up Team (mostly men) • Truck Team (waste collection & disposal) • River Net Team (prevents waste from reaching the ocean) The organization collects 300-400 bags of plastic waste daily, totalling approximately 45,000 tonnes annually. The collected waste is transported to an approved dumpsite in Kingtom using trucks that operate 2-3 trips per day, consuming 30-40 liters of fuel daily. Propel also collaborates with the National Tourist Board to manage waste along the Lumley Beach axis. 2. Waste Management Initiatives • Implementing proper waste disposal & recycling programs • Conducting awareness campaigns on waste segregation • Partnering with local authorities to establish recycling centers 3. Educational Workshops & Community Engagement Propel actively engages with the community to educate residents on environmental conservation: • Organizing educational workshops on waste management, recycling, and conservation • Hosting community events to promote sustainability • Partnering with local businesses and organizations to encourage eco-friendly practices • Encouraging participation in recycling programs and energy conservation
