Najjeza Valley Foundation (NVF) — Founded in November 2022, Najjeza Valley Foundation (NVF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children and their families in Uganda to understand and actively engage with sustainability, food systems, and climate change. NVF’s empowerment approach is anchored in three interconnected pillars: awareness, education, and engagement. First, the Foundation ensures that children and their families are aware of and educated about sustainability, climate change, and resilient food systems. When this knowledge is delivered in a practical and accessible way, it inspires meaningful engagement and action—enabling households and communities to mitigate climate risks, adapt to changing conditions, and build resilient livelihoods. Over the past year, NVF has conducted nearly 20 sustainability and climate change awareness visits across five primary schools in Wakiso District, reaching hundreds of children and educators. Beyond awareness-raising, the Foundation has provided hands-on support to a 15-member women’s group and partner schools to establish organic kitchen gardens and a bamboo nursery, offering extension services and practical guidance to strengthen food security and income generation. To continuously strengthen its technical capacity, NVF staff have participated in and attended several agricultural fairs and environmental training events both locally in Uganda and internationally, including Folkemødet in Denmark. These engagements have exposed the team to hands-on learning, innovative climate-smart agricultural practices, and global perspectives on climate change mitigation and adaptation. The farm hosts goats, chickens, a bamboo nursery, a coffee nursery, and a flower nursery, serving as a practical learning hub for sustainable agriculture. The Foundation also supports and maintains a growing network of coffee farmers in the Kigezi region, who regularly access high-quality coffee seedlings from the Najjeza farm nursery.
