Small Island Geographic Society (SIGS) was founded in 2018 by environmental consultants working in the Maldives. It promotes sustainable and resilient living on small islands through research, knowledge sharing and community engagement. Its activities focus on climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, reducing plastic waste, and environmental health. SIGS works with island councils, civil society organisations, young people, women and other local stakeholders to support sustainable livelihoods and locally informed solutions. Activities include environmental and marine research, citizen science, education, mentorship, tree planting and the development of digital tools for environmental monitoring.
