The Kenyan Peasants League was founded in late 2025, by a group of peasant activists who had previously not organized as peasants, after they met La Vía Campesina activists in the protests against the 10th ministerial WTO meeting in Nairobi in December 2015. The Kenyan Peasants League has about 200 members who are small scale peasants, traders and fishers across Kenya. Members are organized in clusters and there are clusters in the following counties: Baringo, Migori, Machakos, Nairobi and Siaya. The Kenyan Peasants League, as La Vía Campesina, advocates for food sovereignty, agroecology, peasant feminism and climate justice, while fighting industrial farming and neo-liberal institutions such as the WTO and the IMF. Since its inception the Kenyan Peasants League has been quite active within the larger movement, and has for example does summer schools on agroecology, and holds yearly peasant feminist schools. The Kenyan Peasants League is also quite active within their regional part of La Vía Campesina, La Vía Campesina Southern and Eastern Africa (LVC SEAF).
