History: R2P history dates back to 2001 when it was founded as HIAS Representative office in Ukraine. HIAS (www.hias.org) is the oldest migration agency assisting refugees all around the world. In 2013, HIAS spinned off Right to Protection as a national organisation, based on the localization model. From HIAS, R2P inherited its structure and its status as an implementing partner of the UNHCR, its professional experience, and its standards for quality. Purpose: R2P is an NGO dedicated to protecting the rights of asylum seekers, refugees, stateless and undocumented persons, as well as internally displaced and conflict affected persons. R2P is an executive partner of the UNHCR. Advocacy, protection and legal assistance to internally displaced persons are one of the core activities of R2P. Primary activities: Since its inception, R2P has focused on protection mainstreaming, information campaigns, legal assistance, strategic litigation, capacity building, advocacy and policy development. R2P made visible progress in highlighting IDP and CAP problems, employing different advocacy tools, and using every opportunity to improve the legal framework. The start of the war forced R2P to change its organisational structure to be able to offer aid to people affected by the war. This includes mental health and psychosocial support, cash assistance and in-kind assistance. R2P currently operates in 22 regions of Ukraine providing various assistance to affected people. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the R2P team of more than 1.100 experienced specialists, and other staff has reached about three million beneficiaries throughout the country, including families with children, single mothers, elderly people, people with limited mobility and with special needs, residents of collective centers and other vulnerable categories among IDPs and hosting communities. R2P has a running multi-years contracts with UNHCR, UHF, NRC, GIZ and many others.
