Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) was established as an informal network of Ukrainian biologists in 2014 and officially registered as a non-profit, non-governmental organisation in 2018. Today, UNCG brings together more than 50 nature conservation professionals and environmental activists from across Ukraine. The organisation’s mission is to protect biodiversity, establish and safeguard protected natural areas, and promote the implementation of international environmental legislation in Ukraine. UNCG works to establish new nature reserves and improve the management of existing protected areas. Its activities include forest conservation, protection of rare species and valuable habitats, environmental impact assessments, and monitoring of illegal activities that threaten nature. The organisation also works to protect rivers, wetlands, steppes and grasslands, including efforts to prevent environmentally harmful infrastructure projects and the drainage of wetlands. UNCG contributes to the development of environmental legislation, promotes sustainable management of natural resources and works with international conservation frameworks, including the Emerald Network. Through scientific expertise, advocacy and civic engagement, UNCG seeks to strengthen nature conservation and make environmental protection a priority in Ukrainian society.
