Teatro La Plaza - located in the Larcomar shopping center in the Miraflores district of Lima, Peru - is a prominent contemporary performing arts space and one of the country's leading cultural hubs. History Founded on October 23, 2003 by a group of local artists with support from the San Ignacio de Loyola institute (ISIL), the theater has been led since its inception by founder, director, and playwright Chela de Ferrari. Over the years it has earned international recognition for bold stage adaptations, original Peruvian playwriting, and socially engaged productions - most notably its acclaimed 2019 adaptation of Hamlet, cast entirely with actors with Down syndrome. This show is touring the world. However it haven't yet been in Denmark. Purpose Teatro La Plaza sees theater as a tool for critical dialogue: it investigates and interprets social reality to build a questioning perspective that engages the local community. Artistically, it balances new contemporary Peruvian plays with classic texts reinterpreted through a modern lens. Activities & talent development Beyond its main stage programming, the theater actively fosters emerging talent - most notably through Sala de Parto, established in 2013 to stimulate and develop new Peruvian playwriting.
