Changing the Way, We Care |
BIKALPA–Nepal is a community rooted organisation founded in 2021 by leaders who grew up in the child rights programmes of Children Nepal (CN), a long standing Pokhara based organisation previously supported by Danida and CISU. CN brought together children and youth from diverse caste and ethnic backgrounds, nurturing leadership, inclusion, and peaceful engagement. BIKALPA–Nepal was established by some of these former CN youth, now adults, who remain deeply rooted in Pokhara and have cultivated a broad and diverse network; two of its board members are current CN staff, reflecting the strong intergenerational link between the organisations. BIKALPA’s vision is to support Care Leavers by creating safe platforms where they can strengthen their capacities, support one another, and advocate for collective rights and a new care reform and deinstitutionalisation agenda in Nepal: “There would be no care leavers if there are no institutions.” The organisation is well respected by local communities and government bodies and participates actively in several local and national networks. Its core agenda is inclusion, grounded in the belief that people must be able to speak for themselves — a commitment to shared power, lived experience, and co creation.
