JAAGO Foundation was founded in 2007 with the vision of breaking the cycle of poverty through education and creating opportunities for marginalized communities across Bangladesh. Starting in Dhaka’s Rayer Bazar slum with just 17 children, it quickly grew into a nationwide movement. Today, JAAGO runs 11 physical schools, providing free, quality education to over 5,500 children and supports the education of more than 30,000 children in remote areas through various donor-funded projects. Over the years, the foundation has expanded its focus to address interconnected challenges, including Quality Education, Skill Development, Youth Empowerment, Gender Equality, Governance, and Climate Action & Community Resilience. A key part of JAAGO’s growth is Volunteer for Bangladesh, a platform with 55,000 registered volunteers across 64 districts. The platform has mobilized youth to serve communities during crises, advocate for social change, and lead initiatives in health, environment, and disaster response. JAAGO’s initiatives also include programs for gender inclusion and climate action. In collaboration with local communities, donors, the Bangladesh Government, and the private sector, JAAGO has implemented impactful projects such as Shomotay Tarunno, strengthening 313 youth-led organizations, and BIJOYEE, which empowers women and girls through soft skills training. JAAGO currently provides education to 5,500 children in 11 schools and 65 online schools, reaching over 500,000 beneficiaries. It has received prestigious recognitions, including the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2023. JAAGO’s purpose is to build a society free from exploitation and inequality, where every child has access to education, and every community has the tools to thrive.
