Callas Foundation was founded in 2018 by Caroline Peters, a feminist activist and survivor-advocate, to respond to gender-based violence and femicide in Cape Town. Based in Bridgetown, the organisation works with women, children and families across the Cape Flats and other Cape Town communities. Its work addresses the connections between violence, poverty, food insecurity, crime and substance misuse. Primary activities include access-to-justice support and court accompaniment, human rights advocacy, psychosocial support through counsellors and interns, and training GBV first responders and community ambassadors. Prevention programmes include BBB Boys for boys aged 8–16, school-based Human Rights Clubs, anti-bullying activities and community education. Callas also supports women in conflict with the law and operates a community kitchen. Its approach centres survivors’ experiences and combines practical support with advocacy for institutional accountability and lasting social change.
