Positive Vibes is an African, queer, human rights organisation, established in Namibia in 2008, working towards the End of Othering. We contribute to realising human rights, health and social change across sub–Saharan Africa and beyond. We believe that equity and justice for all are possible. PV grew from community-based work responding to HIV, stigma, discrimination and the social exclusion experienced by marginalised communities. Over time, Positive Vibes has expanded its reach across Africa and globally including Latin America and Southeast Asia, working with community-based organisations, civil society partners, networks and funders to strengthen locally led responses to inequality and injustice. Positive Vibes exists to support people and communities to claim their rights, exercise greater agency and influence the decisions that affect their lives. Its approach centres the lived experience, knowledge and leadership of communities that are often excluded from conventional development processes, with a particular emphasis on sexual and gender minorities, and other intersectional marginalised groups. Its primary activities include community and organisational capacity strengthening; leadership development; participatory programme design and facilitation; technical support to civil society organisations and networks; advocacy, health systems monitoring and accountability, movement strengthening; and the development of approaches, tools and learning that promote systems change and inclusive, rights-based practice. Positive Vibes also works with donors and partner organisations to design and implement programmes that shift power towards communities and strengthen locally owned solutions. Across its work, Positive Vibes combines practical implementation with learning, reflection and partnership, seeking to build stronger organisations and movements and to contribute to lasting social change.
