Resume

HTI have together with our partner PHKe established a 1,500 m² multi-purpose handball pitch with lighting and roof, which will provide as a framework for handball activities, establishment of clubs, entrepreneurship and training of local leaders in the Mathare slum. The pitch is now in use, and the next step is to establish sustainable clubs that will provide a framework for handball activities, whilst also serving as democratic training grounds where local young people are trained to take responsibility in their local community. In Mathare, sustainability is closely linked to economy – if we want young people to remain involved, the majority will need a basic income that allows them to focus on things other than earning a living on a day-to-day basis. In the HTI Academy project, we combine training in coaching, leadership and entrepreneurship with club-building and access to capital, so that volunteering in the future is built on a foundation where basic necessities are secured.
