Overall targets

To eradicate violations of children’s rights in Villupuram district, India.

Immediate targets

1. Children from 10 schools and 10 children’s rights clubs in 10 villages have increased knowledge about their rights and are empowered to advocate for themselves. 2. Children’s rights ambassadors and other stakeholders have improved knowledge about the legal aspect of children’s rights; the current state of children’s rights in Villupuram district; and their legal and moral responsibility. 3. Child friendly environments have been created in schools and villages, who have committed to put a particular focus on children’s rights.

Target groups

The primary target group is children between 5-21 years old from rural poor and marginalized. - 2500 school children (60/40 boys/girls) across 10 schools - 200 children (70/30 boys/girls) from 10 villages (members of the children’s rights clubs) The secondary target group is: - 20 teachers (60/40 men/women) - 30 traditional leaders, religious leaders, community leaders, lawyers and leaders or representatives from CSOs/CBOs - 30 local rights activists that are directly involved as children’s rights ambassadors. - Government line department officers - The families and other villagers - The pupils and the staff members at the schools

Projektet, "Children, Know Your Rights", handler om at sikre indiske børns rettigheder med særligt fokus på misbrug, børneægteskaber og børnearbejde. Indien har en række love på området, men mange børn, unge og deres familier kender ikke til deres rettigheder, eller hvad de skal gøre hvis de oplever at deres rettigheder bliver krænket. Gennem involvering af lokale skoler og oprettelse af børnerettighedsklubber vil børn og unge blive undervist i deres rettigheder og empoweret til selv at kunne kæmpe for retfærdighed og lige rettigheder. Der vil blive uddannet peer-træneres blandt eleverne fra hver skole. Derudover vil en række moralske og lovmæssige duty bearers blive trænet og udnævnt børnerettighedsambassadører. Projektet implementeres i Villupuram distrikt i Tamil Nadu i Indien med særligt fokus på to fattige landområder (taluks).
