The recent high magnitude earthquakes and following aftershocks in Herat, Afghanistan has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in an already vulnerable community. According to UNHCR 1,300 people has been reported killed, 1,800 injured and 19,250 (3,197 families) impacted, with the majority located to the district of Zindajan. The affected communities have little resilience to cope with these multiple shocks and a scale up of humanitarian aid is urgently needed. Key needs are for example shelter, water, food healthcare.and basic needs. Our interventions target group include 80 families affected by the recent earthquakes in the Sanjab village of the Zindajan district. They will get cash based assistence (CBA), which is effective and timely. CBA allows for a quick response meeting the urgent humanitarian needs of affected families, and it allows beneficiaries to maintain self-determination of needs.
