Resume

This three-month Rapid Response intervention will reduce the immediate risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases among 300 vulnerable households in Gatumba, a border-side transit and reception area in western Burundi. The target group comprises 255 newly arrived refugee households from the Democratic Republic of Congo and 45 highly vulnerable host-community households sharing the same overstretched WASH environment, with priority given to households with children under five, pregnant and lactating women, elderly persons and persons with disabilities. The intervention will provide rapid access to a complete safe water chain at household level through the local procurement and distribution of WASH kits, including water treatment supplies, jerrycans, buckets with lids, soap and menstrual hygiene items. This will be complemented by targeted hygiene promotion and cholera-prevention messaging adapted to high-density transit conditions, particularly during the long rainy season.
