OCHA reports that initial estimates indicate that the flash and riverine floods across Somalia have affected at least 460,470 people, of whom nearly 219,000 have been displaced from their homes mainly in flood-prone areas, and 22 killed. The flash floods affected host communities as well as the displaced people in Gaalkacyo in Galmudug lost their properties, shops and their homes. The affected population live in camps outskirts of Gaalkaio. Shops and latrines were inundated and temporarily closing schools and health facilities, and damaging roads. Gaalkacyo is susceptible to flash flooding due to a lack of a drainage system. Authorities have appealed for urgent rehabilitation of the water catchment which is the primary source of flash flooding. Partners in Galmudug State estimate that about 2,340 families (14,040 people) from host communities and displaced people have been displaced by flash floods in Dhuusamarreeb and are scattered or living with relatives and friends in the town
