The Armenian Association of Social Workers (AASW) was established in 2004 as a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization with the mission to contribute to the professionalization of social work and the improvement of social services in Armenia. From its inception, AASW has aimed to support the country’s transition from administrative-type social services to rights-based and professionally grounded social work services, promoting human dignity and social justice. AASW’s mission and strategic vision focus on assisting the ongoing reforms in Armenia’s social protection system through the development of institutional structures for the social work profession and by strengthening the professional identity and capacity of social workers. As the first organization of its kind in Armenia, AASW advocates for the recognition and protection of the rights of both social workers and their service users. Being established by just 5 social workers in 2004, nowadays AASW has a nationwide presence, uniting more than 1,000 social workers (232 full members and 800 associated members) across diverse fields including child protection, women’s rights, disability inclusion, internally displaced persons (IDP) and refugee support, elderly care, and mental health. AASW, also operates Social Work Hubs in Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Yerevan, Armavir, Ararat, and Aragatsotn regions, ensuring regional representation and community outreach. AASW also collaborates with over 80 civil society organizations and local networks focused on children’s rights, women’s empowerment, disability inclusion, and elderly welfare, often supporting them through small grant programs and joint advocacy initiatives. AASW has a strong record in managing international grants funded by organizations such as UNICEF, UNHCR, EU, World Bank, Hilfswerk International, GIZ, World Vision, Médecins du Monde France, Every Child UK, Fund for Armenian Relief, ACTED, PIN, Start Fund, Aurora Foundatio
