Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal (BWSN)

Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal (BWSN) is a women youth led feminist non-governmental organization established in 1995 in Sarlahi, Nepal, in the aftermath of the devastating 1994 Bagmati River flood. The organization was initially established to respond to the needs of flood affected and marginalized communities and has since expanded its work across 201 local level covering 5 out of 7 provinces of Nepal. Over the past three decades, BWSN has worked to improve the health, wellbeing, resilience and rights of poor, marginalized and vulnerable populations, particularly women, girls, young people and socially excluded communities. BWSN’s purpose is to support communities to identify and address injustice, strengthen their capacity and voice, and promote inclusive, sustainable and accountable development. Its current work is organized around three interconnected pillars: People, Planet and Power. Primary activities include health, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, HIV/TB, maternal and newborn health, WASH, education and livelihoods; disaster risk reduction, emergency response, climate resilience, biodiversity and sustainable resource management; and inclusive governance, civic participation, social accountability and leadership of women and young people. BWSN undertakes humanitarian response, recovery and community resilience activities pre, during and post disasters.
