Ecoaction is a member-based Ukrainian civil-society organisation created by environmental experts and activists to strengthen environmental protection and ensure that climate and energy policy is grounded in evidence and public interest. Over time, Ecoaction has grown into a recognised NGO that works nationally while cooperating with local communities and international partners, combining technical expertise with advocacy and public engagement. Ecoaction’s purpose is to contribute to a cleaner, safer and more sustainable Ukraine by advancing climate action, energy efficiency, and renewable energy, and by promoting healthier environmental standards, including in areas such as transport and agriculture. The organisation aims to influence policy and investment decisions so that Ukraine’s development and reconstruction support a long-term green transition, reduce pollution and energy poverty risks, and increase resilience at all levels in society. Ecoaction works through a mix of (1) research and analysis, (2) policy advocacy, (3) public communication and campaigning, and (4) community support and capacity-building. In practice, this includes producing evidence-based assessments and recommendations; engaging decision-makers and stakeholders; informing the public through accessible communications; and supporting local initiatives that can implement sustainable solutions. Ecoaction structures its work through thematic focus areas (including Energy, Climate, and Agriculture), which helps translate technical knowledge into concrete proposals, partnerships and actions. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ecoaction has continued its core environmental mandate while also providing humanitarian support when needed. This has included procurement and delivery of essentials such as food, medicines and power equipment (e.g., generators/Ecoflows) to affected communities/partner towns, reflecting an adaptive response to urgent needs alongside long-term work on sustainable recovery.
