Kapaeeng Foundation

The term ‘Kapaeeng’ is derived from indigenous Khumi language, meaning ‘Rights’. Kapaeeng Foundation is a human rights organization, which was established on 1 April 2004 with the view to working for promotion and protection of the rights of indigenous peoples of the country. Initially, it focused on documenting human-rights violations and raising awareness. Over time, its work expanded to humanitarian support, Indigenous land and cultural rights, environmental protection, climate-related issues, research, advocacy, and community development. It also works on the rights of Indigenous women, girls and children and promotes implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord 1997. The main purpose of Kapaeeng Foundation is to protect and promote the rights and well-being of Indigenous Peoples in Bangladesh. Its key purposes also include: • Promoting human rights, equality, and social justice. • Supporting Indigenous land, cultural, and political rights. • Providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable Indigenous communities. • Protecting the environment and natural resources and addressing climate-related challenges. • Promoting the rights and empowerment of Indigenous women, girls and children. • Conducting research, documentation, awareness, and advocacy on Indigenous issues. • Supporting sustainable community development and livelihoods. • Advocating for the effective implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord 1997 Primary activities of Kapaeeng Foundation are: Human Rights Monitoring and documentation, Advocacy and Awareness, Humanitarian Support, Land and Cultural Rights, Environmental Protection, Women, girls and Children, Research and Publications, Community Development, Networking and Partnerships
