Foreningens formål er almennyttigt ved gennem socialt, kulturelt og andet arbejde på nationalt og internationalt plan, at virke for integration af de dårligst stillede grupper i deres respektive samfund, således at disse får mulighed for at opnå en aktiv livskvalitet som alternativ til anbringelse på institutioner. AMIS er en fortsættelse af foreningen Det Europæiske Hus.
